Queensland FIFO Jobs

-

Queensland FIFO is built around two regions. The Bowen Basin, inland from Mackay, holds the largest metallurgical coal mines in the country and the biggest villages, around Moranbah, Coppabella, Dysart and Blackwater. The North West Minerals Province around Mount Isa and Cloncurry is copper, lead, zinc and phosphate country, with crews flying from Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane.

The jobs

Coal roles cover open cut and underground operators, drill and blast, fixed plant trades, electricians and supervisors. The villages hire facilities attendants, housekeeping, chefs and maintenance trades, and Civeo has listed several Bowen Basin roles here on 14:7 and 7:7 rosters with both FIFO and DIDO options. In the North West, Orica has listed field maintenance technicians at Mount Isa on an 8/6 roster, and the camp operators recruit service attendants ex Cairns and Townsville.

Getting in

Coal mine work needs a Standard 11 induction and a coal board medical. Metalliferous sites and camp roles do not. DIDO from Mackay, Rockhampton, Townsville and Emerald is common, and many Bowen Basin employers let you choose between the flight and the drive.
