Cairns FIFO Jobs
Cairns is the northern FIFO hub for Queensland and the Gulf. Flights leave for the bauxite and gold operations of Cape York, the copper and zinc mines around Mount Isa and Cloncurry, the Northern Territory sites across the border and the villages that house all of them.
The jobs
Camp and village work is the biggest category. Sodexo has listed service attendants covering housekeeping, kitchen and hospitality for regional Queensland sites ex Cairns on a 14:7 roster. Mine roles from Cairns cover operators, trades, drill and blast and processing, with charter flights direct to site.
Getting in
Cairns has a large hospitality workforce, and the camp operators draw on it heavily, so a tourism or hotel background transfers well into village work. A police check, a medical and food safety certificates cover most camp roles. Mine roles need a metalliferous induction or a Standard 11 depending on the site.
