Brisbane FIFO Jobs

Brisbane is the main point of hire for FIFO work in the Bowen Basin, the coal region inland from Mackay and Rockhampton. Mines around Moranbah, Dysart, Middlemount and Blackwater fly crews in from Brisbane, and some also run flights from Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton.

Queensland is different

Coal mining in Queensland has its own entry requirements. You need the Standard 11 generic induction, which is a short course, and a coal board medical that is current. Both are checked before you start. Underground coal has further requirements on top. Employers list what they need in each job on this page.

Rosters and camps

The common Queensland pattern is 7/7 or 14/7 rather than the 2:1 seen in WA, and DIDO is more common because Moranbah and the surrounding towns are within a day's drive of the coast. The village operators run the camps at Moranbah, Dysart and Coppabella, and they hire chefs, cleaners and facilities staff on FIFO and DIDO terms too.

Civeo and BHP have listed Queensland roles here. See also the Moranbah page for jobs at the centre of the Bowen Basin.
