Mount Isa FIFO Jobs
Mount Isa is the mining capital of North West Queensland. Copper, lead, zinc and silver have been mined here for almost a century, and the surrounding Minerals Province takes in Cloncurry, the Ernest Henry and Dugald River mines and a run of new copper and phosphate projects. The town is residential at its core with a growing FIFO workforce flying from Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane.
The jobs
Orica has listed field maintenance technicians at Mount Isa on an 8/6 roster. The district as a whole employs underground operators, charge-up crews, processing and smelter operators, boilermakers, electricians, diesel fitters, geologists and supervisors, plus the village and camp roles at the outlying sites.
Getting in
Mount Isa has daily commercial flights from Brisbane and Townsville. Metalliferous inductions apply rather than coal tickets. Underground experience is the most sought after background, and Orica, the drilling contractors and the camp operators are the usual entry points for people without it.
