About the Role
South32 is hiring a permanent, full-time Laboratory Technician at Cannington, its silver and lead mine via McKinlay in north-west Queensland, about 800 km west of Townsville. The role works a 7/7 day and night shift roster, FIFO from Townsville or Brisbane, or DIDO from the Mount Isa region. The advert closes on 9 November 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyse samples and report results for production, metallurgy, geology and marketing
- Keep laboratory equipment safe and in good working order
- Prepare reagents and manage stock of consumables
- Review QAQC data and act on results that fall out of specification
- Keep work instructions current
About You
- No formal qualification is required, though a relevant trade or study is highly regarded
- Manual driver's licence, with a forklift licence desirable
- Laboratory experience in a mining or production setting is desirable
- Knowledge of WD-XRF, ICP-OES and fusion equipment is desirable
- Comfortable working day and night shifts on a rotating roster
