About the Role
South32 is hiring Diesel Fitters for its Cannington silver and lead mine in northwest Queensland, about 800 km west of Townsville. Several permanent positions are open on a 7/7 day and night roster, FIFO from Townsville, Brisbane or Cairns, or DIDO from the Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires. The work is underground on the mine's mobile fleet. Applications close on 13 November 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled and breakdown maintenance, inspections, diagnosis and repairs on mobile plant, covering mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
- Maintain Sandvik and Epiroc drill rigs, CAT underground trucks and loaders, and ancillary equipment underground
- Scope corrective work properly so it flows through the work management process
- Record maintenance work in SAP
About You
- Trade qualified Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter or Mechanic, recognised in Australia
- Experience on underground drills such as the Sandvik DD421 and Epiroc Simba LC6 and MC6
- Experience on underground load and haul fleet, including CAT R1700, R2900 and R3000 loaders and AD63, AD60 and AD45 trucks
- Strong hydraulic fault finding skills
- Class C driver's licence or higher, and current First Aid and CPR or willingness to get them
- High risk licences for dogging, rigging and forklift are desirable
