Job Description

We’re RTS – part of the Railtrain Holdings Group, one of Australia’s leading providers of rail crew and infrastructure services. We support major operators across the country and are committed to a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and performance.

Due to continued growth, we’re seeking experienced Tamper / Regulator Operators to join our FIFO operations team. In this hands-on role, you will operate rail maintenance machinery to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality track resurfacing and alignment across major infrastructure projects.

Job Requirements

To be a contributing and effective member of our team, you’ll demonstrate strong experience in rail machinery operations, particularly tamping and regulating within rail maintenance environments.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience operating tampers and/or regulators in rail environments
  • Strong knowledge of track geometry, alignment, and resurfacing processes
  • A solid understanding of rail safety standards and network rules
  • Ability to follow work instructions, tolerances, and quality requirements
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a close-knit crew
  • Ability to work autonomously in FIFO and remote environments


You will also:

  • Hold a current Driver’s Licence (Class C minimum)
  • Hold relevant rail competencies/tickets for plant operation
  • Have a Construction White Card
  • Be able to pass a Category 1 Rail Medical and Drug & Alcohol test
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safe working practices

Job Responsibilities

As a Tamper / Regulator Operator, you will play a key role in maintaining track quality and ensuring safe rail operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating tamping and regulating equipment to maintain track geometry
  • Performing track alignment, lifting, and leveling to required tolerances
  • Supporting resurfacing activities alongside track crews
  • Conducting pre-start checks, maintenance, and inspections on machinery
  • Monitoring track conditions and reporting defects or issues
  • Working closely with team leads, protection staff, and supervisors
  • Following all network rules, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses
  • Maintaining equipment cleanliness and ensuring operational readiness
  • Contributing to a safe, productive, and team-focused environment
