Melbourne FIFO Jobs
Victoria has very little mining of its own, so a FIFO job from Melbourne means an interstate roster. Some employers pay for a commercial flight from Melbourne to Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane and then put you on the charter to site. Others expect you to get yourself to the point of hire. This page lists the roles where Melbourne is an accepted point of hire or where the employer says interstate applicants are welcome.
What to check
Look at the roster length before anything else. A 2:1 roster with a travel day at each end from Melbourne eats into the week at home, and that is why interstate FIFO workers tend to prefer longer swings such as 14/14 or 2:2. Check whether the employer pays the interstate leg or only the charter, because that is the difference between a good deal and a poor one.
Most of the FIFO work in Australia is on the Western Australia page, and the roster pages (14/14 and 8/6) are the quickest way to find a swing that works from the east coast.
