Chef FIFO Jobs
A mine village kitchen feeds several hundred people three times a day, plus crib packs for the day shift and a full spread for the night shift. That takes head chefs, sous chefs, chef supervisors, qualified cooks and kitchen hands, and the village operators hire all of them on FIFO rosters.
What employers ask for
A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent trade for chef roles, with volume catering experience preferred over restaurant experience. A food safety supervisor certificate helps. Kitchen hand roles need no qualification. Everyone needs a police clearance and to pass the medical, and some sites want a manual licence. Remote camp experience is valued because the rhythm is different from a city kitchen: early starts, big batches, and the same faces every day.

Compass Group has listed chef supervisors and head chefs for regional WA villages on 14/7 and 8/6 rosters. Sodexo and Civeo hire chefs and cooks for their villages in WA, Queensland and New South Wales. Flights are usually from Perth or Brisbane and the camp room and meals are covered on swing.
