FIFO Utility Jobs
A utility, sometimes called a village all-rounder, does the work that keeps a camp running: cleaning rooms and common areas, helping in the kitchen and dining room, laundry, rubbish and grounds. It is the most common entry point into FIFO for people without a trade, and the village operators hire in numbers.
What employers ask for
No qualification. Employers want a police clearance, a pre-employment medical with a drug and alcohol screen, physical fitness for a twelve hour day on your feet, and a manual driver's licence in many cases. Experience in cleaning, hospitality or aged care is a plus. A food safety certificate helps for the kitchen side.
Rosters and conditions
Village rosters are commonly 2:1 in WA and 14/7 in Queensland, with flights from Perth or Brisbane and the room and meals covered on site. The work is shift based, and you will do both the early clean and the evening dinner service across a swing.
