Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role

Reporting to the Senior Infrastructure Engineer, the Ventilation Engineer is responsible for working with the other members of the Infrastructure and Technical Services team, develop short and long term plans for mine ventilation, including locations of secondary ventilation devices and manage the ventilation of the mine to optimise the mine plan.

In this role, you will
  • Planning and management of secondary fans, regulators and other ventilation controls
  • Working with Long Term Planning and consultants on long term ventilation plans
  • Communicate ventilation plans to all stakeholders, including preparation and distribution of ventilation work Instructions
  • Conducting primary and secondary surveys
  • Maintaining Ventsim Model of the mine
  • Planning and schedule ventilation works in conjunction with the Scheduling Engineers to achieve business planning targets
  • Working with the Shift Foremen and Supervisors to get ventilation works carried out in a timely manner and to the required standard
  • Updating emergency and ventilation plans
  • Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness.
  • Actively participate in Safety Interactions and SafeCheck process.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental practices.
  • Identification of potential hazards and action that is appropriately taken.
  • Maintenance of a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness.
  • Raising, discussion and resolution of safety issues at regular meetings.
The person
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
  • Experience in underground mining, including operational experience.
  • Strong organisational skills
  • High level of self-motivation
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to analyse a task and understand safety and job requirements

Working Conditions

The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8days on and 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin or Alice Springs.
