Goldfields FIFO Jobs

-

The northern Goldfields of Western Australia, north of Kalgoorlie through Leonora and Laverton, is gold country. Dozens of open pit and underground gold mines sit within a few hours of Laverton, including the Duketon operations, and almost every one of them is staffed by FIFO crews on charter flights from Perth.

The jobs

MACA has listed tyre fitters and storepersons at Duketon South on 2/2 and 2/1 rosters. The region's contract miners and mine owners also recruit dump truck and excavator operators, drill and blast crews, boilermakers, diesel fitters, processing plant operators and supervisors, with mine site villages employing the usual camp roles. Contract mining rosters here are often 2/1, and owner-operator sites tend to run 8/6.

Getting in

Nearly all Goldfields roles are FIFO from Perth on charter flights to Laverton, Leonora or the site airstrip. A metalliferous induction, a medical and a manual driver's licence are the basics; operators need machine tickets and site experience for most roles, though contract miners are one of the better sources of trainee operator and trades assistant work.
