FIFO Diesel Fitter Jobs

Heavy diesel fitters keep the mining fleet running. The work is scheduled servicing and breakdown repair on haul trucks, excavators, dozers, graders and drills, in a workshop and in the field, on day and night shift. Fixed plant fitters do the equivalent on crushers, conveyors and mills. It is one of the most consistently advertised FIFO trades in the country.

What employers ask for

A Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle or Mobile Plant Technology, or a recognised diesel fitting trade from overseas with Australian recognition. Employers want experience on the brands they run, usually CAT, Komatsu, Liebherr or Hitachi, and on the specific class of machine. Tickets that come up often are working at heights, confined space, EWP, forklift and a high risk work licence for cranes or rigging where the role includes them.

BHP has listed heavy diesel fitters for the mobile fleet at Olympic Dam on a 7/7 roster with residential, DIDO and FIFO options, and mechanical fitters for the underground processing plant. Rosters elsewhere are 2:1 or 8/6 in WA.
