South Australia FIFO Jobs

-

South Australia's FIFO work is concentrated in the Far North. Olympic Dam near Roxby Downs is one of the largest underground mines in the world, and BHP also runs Prominent Hill and Carrapateena in the same region. Crews fly from Adelaide or drive in from the mid north, and 7/7 rosters are common because the sites are within a day's drive of the city.

The jobs

BHP has listed heavy diesel fitters, mechanical fitters, electrical technicians and processing supervisors at Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill on 7/7 and 8/6 rosters, with both FIFO and DIDO offered on the Olympic Dam roles. Orica recruits underground charge-up operators and blasting equipment technicians for SA sites, and the villages hire the usual camp roles. Underground experience is in demand because the state's big mines are all underground operations.

Getting in

No coal ticket is needed in SA. A pre-employment medical, a police check and a current driver's licence are standard, and underground roles ask for an underground induction and often a jumbo, bogger or charge-up ticket. Copper and uranium sites have their own radiation and site inductions, which the employer provides.
