About the Role

BHP is looking for a Senior Mining Engineer, Backfill to join the Technical Services team at Prominent Hill, its copper-gold operation about 650 km north-west of Adelaide. The position works an 8/6 FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta. You will be the site's technical lead for paste fill and rockfill, supporting safe production now and long-term mine planning, and working closely with the mining, geotechnical, planning and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and optimise paste fill mix designs to meet exposure stability and stope performance needs
  • Track backfill performance through QA/QC, strength testing and stope reconciliation
  • Provide technical governance for the paste fill and rockfill systems
  • Design and optimise paste fill reticulation networks, including layouts, pressures and capacity
  • Run and review flow modelling for planning and debottlenecking
  • Keep backfill standards, procedures and technical documents current, and support investigations and risk assessments
  • Coach and mentor engineers and prepare technical reports for business planning

About You

  • A tertiary qualification in mining, geotechnical, civil or mechanical engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in underground mining or a technical engineering role
  • Experience with paste fill or rockfill systems; reticulation design or flow modelling is highly regarded
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Deswik or similar planning and engineering software
  • Leadership, clear communication and the ability to build relationships across technical and operational teams
