Peabody is hiring experienced Longwall Mechanical Fitters for permanent positions on the longwall crews at Centurion Mine, about 160 kilometres west of Mackay in Queensland. The roster is 7 on, 7 off, rotating between days and nights. You can live in Moranbah, drive in and out, or fly in and out from Brisbane. Longwall coal production at Centurion began in 2026, and the crews work on a purpose-built CAT/HBT longwall system with advanced shearer technology, a remote operating cabin and new monorail and hydraulic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul longwall equipment, including shearers, AFCs, BSLs and hydraulic roof supports
- Maintain and troubleshoot complex hydraulic systems
- Diagnose mechanical faults and fix them with minimal equipment downtime
- Support longwall installation, maintenance and panel moves
- Work with electricians, engineers, operators and the wider maintenance team
- Keep service records and log equipment issues and repairs for maintenance history and compliance
About You
- Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate
- Proven mechanical experience on longwall systems in an underground coal mine
- Hands-on experience with shearers, AFCs, BSLs and hydraulic roof supports
- Sound knowledge of hydraulic systems and underground mechanical equipment
- Able to work safely in confined spaces and challenging underground conditions
- Strong understanding of risk management and hazard identification
