South32About the Role
South32 is hiring several permanent Jumbo Operators for its Cannington underground silver and lead mine in north west Queensland, about 800 km west of Townsville. The roster is 7/7 with rotating 12.5 hour day and night shifts. You can fly in from Townsville, Brisbane or Cairns straight to the airstrip on site, or drive in from the Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires. The advert closes on 7 October 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the jumbo safely and productively in development headings
- Carry out face boring and meshing
- Install ground support to the required standard and specification
- Work to the mine plans and designs for each heading
- Look after the rig and help develop other operators in the development crew
About You
- Solid experience as a Jumbo Operator underground
- Proven time on Sandvik development rigs
- A strong commitment to safe work and a positive safety culture
- Current manual C class driver licence
- First Aid and CPR certificate, or willing to get one
- Cannington has a clean shaven policy, and smoking is not allowed during work hours
