About the Role

WesTrac is hiring a Heavy Diesel Mechanic for its Project Support Group, a FIFO service team that supplies skilled maintenance people to customer sites across Western Australia for warranty support, shutdowns and extra labour. This role is based at Solomon Hub, an open pit iron ore mine in the Pilbara. The roster is 7 days, 7 nights, then 7 days off, with 12.5 hour shifts including a 30 minute meal break, FIFO from Perth only. Relocation support to Perth is available to the right person under company policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the customer's maintenance crews on major and minor work scopes
  • Complete assigned work in line with customer and WesTrac policies and procedures
  • Provide hands-on technical help and high productivity on Caterpillar equipment
  • Act as the link between the customer, WesTrac and Caterpillar for preventive maintenance and technical repairs
  • Troubleshoot equipment and report through Caterpillar processes
  • Use Caterpillar SIS2 technical information and documentation

About You

  • An Australian recognised Heavy Mobile Plant Technology qualification plus post-trade experience
  • A valid Australian HR driver's licence
  • A strong understanding of Caterpillar warranty provisions
  • Experience with 793F trucks, 994H and K loaders, D11T dozers and C175 and 3500 series engines, including component change outs
  • Strong diagnostic skills, computer literacy and written and spoken communication
  • Confident working alone or as part of a team
