Fortescue is taking on a Blast Operator Trainee at Eliwana, its iron ore mine in the western Pilbara on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama people. The role is FIFO from Perth on an 8/6 roster of eight days on and six days off. Fortescue says the opening is aimed at people who are new to mining but bring skills from other work, so it is a real way into a drill and blast crew. You will report to the Drill and Blast Supervisor and help make sure the mine and processing plant have enough blasted material of the right quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the drill and blast crew to prepare and deliver blasted stock for mining and processing
- Hit the daily production targets set for the crew
- Look after equipment and keep it in working order
- Look for ways to make the blasting process run more efficiently
- Follow Fortescue's values and its Zero Harm safety principles on every shift
About You
- A manual WA Class C driver's licence
- Dangerous goods security clearance is desirable
- Experience operating mobile equipment in mining is a plus but not required
- Clear two-way communication and good people skills
- A high regard for safety, good time management and a team mindset
