About the Role

Barminco, the underground mining business of the Perenti Group, is hiring a full-time Communications Technician on a 14/14 FIFO roster for a long-term underground gold project in Western Australia. The ad does not name the site, so check the details with Barminco when you apply. You will install and look after the communications and technology networks that keep the underground operation connected, including systems that support tele-remote and automated mining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and maintain underground communications, including digital radio, fibre optic, leaky feeder, Wi-Fi mesh and BLE systems
  • Support and fault find mining technology such as fleet management, proximity detection, tele-remote and environmental monitoring systems
  • Maintain stable, low latency links between underground mobile equipment and surface control
  • Install and test underground sensors, IoT devices and telemetry equipment
  • Work with operations, electrical and IT/OT teams on network and edge devices
  • Guide and mentor others on the site's technology systems

About You

  • Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications, Electronics, IT or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Current ACMA Open Cabling Registration, ideally with fibre optic, structured and coaxial endorsements
  • Experience in a communications or technology support role in mining, resources or heavy industry, ideally underground
  • Hands-on experience with fibre, leaky feeder, digital radio and wireless technologies
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space Entry tickets, or willing to get them
  • Valid manual driver licence
  • Able to pass a medical, drug and alcohol screen and National Police Clearance, with Australian work rights
