About the Role

BHP is looking for a Lead Mine Geologist at the Carrapateena underground mine in South Australia, working FIFO on an 8/6 roster. The ad lists the role under Adelaide. You lead a team of mine geologists and core processing technicians, and work with Mining, Technical Services, Ore Body Knowledge and Resource Development on geological interpretation, resource confidence and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach mine geologists and technicians through feedback, mentoring and technical guidance
  • Set and uphold standards in data quality, logging, mapping, drilling optimisation and reconciliation
  • Use geological insight to inform decisions, reduce risk and improve ore definition
  • Build working relationships with operational, technical and external stakeholders
  • Drive continuous improvement, structured problem solving and safe work practices
  • Support succession planning and build capability across the team

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology, Geoscience or Earth Sciences
  • Mining geology experience across production geology, interpretation, drill design, logging, mapping and grade control, preferably in large copper or copper-gold operations
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a geological team
  • Able to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams
  • Desirable: exposure to sub-level cave and block cave mining, and experience with Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine or similar software
  • Checks may include police, medical, drug and alcohol, right to work and reference checks
